Well, it is March again…
A full year of working from home, staying inside, and going literally nowhere. This past year has me missing a lot of things. I miss the little things like spending way too much time browsing in a bookstore, casually walking into cafes for a bite to eat, and socializing with different human beings. But, I most desperately miss traveling. I miss the excitement of planning a trip and having something to look forward to, counting down the days until I can put my out-of-office response on, sitting in the airport as strangers come and go, flying amidst the clouds, landing in a foreign land, exploring new places and embracing different cultures, trying to foods, meeting new people, and falling in love with the world.
My desire to leave this house, to go on walks anywhere besides this town, to simply be anywhere else is at an all-time high. But, instead of going anywhere, I’ve watched countless hours of television, trying to watch my wanderlust away.
The Flight Attendant is an HBO Max thriller about (you guessed it) a flight attendant whose life is upended when she wakes up in a hotel room with a dead man and no memory of what happened. Kaley Cuoco stars and produces the hour-long drama which was filmed in New York, Bangkok, and Rome. Fun fact, when Kaley first tried to buy the rights to the book the series is based on she hadn’t even read it yet, she just liked the cover art!
This six-part miniseries is based on Joseph Heller’s 1961 novel by the same name and follows the story of a rebellious US Army bombardier during World War II. This dark satirical comedy was filmed in Rome and Sardinia with gorgeous scenes of the sunny Mediterranean paradise. Hats off to the directors George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Ellen Kuras as well as the series cinematographer, Martin Ruhe, for combining dark satire, the reality of war, and breathtaking cinematography for this book to screen adaptation.
A murder, a grouchy detective, and the beautiful English seaside. What more could you want from a television show? Broadchurch was filmed in West Bay, Dorset a small town on the English Channel, featuring a mix of classical and contemporary architecture and magnificent layered cliffs with picturesque beaches. This brilliant three-season mystery series keeps viewers on the edge of their seats and has them letting Netflix know that yes, they still are watching.
There is a reason Homeland is a forty-time Emmy Nominee and an eight-time Emmy Award winner. This eight-season thriller follows CIA officer Carrie Mathison as she risks everything for the sake of the nation and it is truly one of the best-produced television shows out there. The Showtime series, which was filmed in North Carolina, Virginia, New York, Israel, Puerto Rico, Morocco, South Africa, and Germany, is a must-watch.
Everything is not what it seems when it comes to the picture-perfect Florida Key’s Rayburn Family. However, when secrets rise from the depths of the ocean, family relationships are put to the test and good people are asked to do some very terrible things. The darkness of the three-season drama juxtaposes the bright, sunny landscape of the Florida Keys. Oh and the gorgeous Rayburn House featured in the series? It’s a real hotel where guests can enjoy the sunny Florida Keys or act out scenes from the show, whatever floats your boat.
A literal world tour of some of the most healthy, sustainable, and beautiful places around the globe. This docuseries follows Zac Efron and Darin Olien as they travel to Iceland, France, Costa Rica, Sardinia, Lima, Puerto Rico, London, and Iquitos. While the eight-part docuseries is light and quick, it highlights important messages including living a healthy life, protecting the planet, and enjoying nature.
